HUD statment on Windows XP end of life

April 3, 2014

As you may know Microsoft has announced the end all further development, support, and patches for security holes for Windows XP.

When HUD help desk responded today with this ‘official’ response.

Response:
Though security is a critical concern to HUD there is not a formal position on this issue. As you know HUD does not take specific stances on any type of software, Microsoft included.

At the HMIS Test Environment we are aware that Microsoft is stopping all further patches for security holes found in Windows XP. We are of the opinion that if your computer is behind a firewall, you keep your antivirus protection up to date, and move to another web browser besides IE, you should remain secure. Having said that we need to be clear that HUD has no official response on this issue and advises you to maintain all privacy and security precautions you believe in your best professional judgment are required.”

The important points are “if your computer is behind a firewall, you keep your antivirus protection up to date, and move to another web browser besides IE, you should remain secure.”

So the HUD recommendation is not to use Internet Explorer as your web browser, Keep your anti-virus up-to-date. Because ServicePoint is accessed through the web browser it is very important that you have an up-to-date web browser.
